A Very Fine Pair of Georgian Cast Silver Candlesticks by John Cafe London 1757 Silversmith_Andrew Ravenenquire A very good pair of George III cast silver table candlesticks of shell and scroll decoration to a square shaped base. The stem with a circular knop and a fluted rectangular knop. Rope twist decoration to the base and capitals. Conforming shell cornered square shaped sconces. Marked to the underside for London 1757 by John Cafe. The capitals also marked with makers mark and lion passant. Each sconce also marked with the makers mark and lion

pierced baskets and other important large pieces of silver

The whole standing on three cast scrolling shell form feet

The hallmarks are clear

of excellent gauge and wonderful patina

Of good robust gauge silver

He was a prolific maker of fine silverware in the second half off the nineteenth century

The dates are 1813 (S)

In April 1708 he resigned the post in favour of his political ally Sir Richard Onslow and returned to the chancellorship of the Exchequer until August 1710
